Your Guardian account holds some of the most sensitive information about your life — your building contract, payment history, site photos, defect records, and potentially tribunal evidence. That is exactly why we have added two-factor authentication (2FA) to every Guardian account.
Why Does This Matter?
If someone gains access to your Guardian account, they could see your contract value, payment schedule, defect history, and dispute documentation. For a $500,000+ home build, that data is worth protecting.
Two-factor authentication means even if someone guesses your password, they still cannot get in without your phone.
How to Set It Up
- Go to your Profile page
- Find the Two-Factor Authentication section
- Click Enable 2FA
- Scan the QR code with your authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, or similar)
- Enter the 6-digit code to verify
That is it. From now on, every login requires both your password and a code from your authenticator app.
Which Authenticator App Should I Use?
Any TOTP-compatible authenticator works. Popular options include Google Authenticator (free), Authy (free, with cloud backup), and 1Password (if you already use it for password management).
We recommend Authy because it backs up your codes to the cloud — so if you lose your phone, you can recover them on a new device.
Can I Turn It Off Later?
Yes. You can disable 2FA from the same Profile page. But we strongly recommend keeping it on for the duration of your build, especially if you are in a dispute or have a tribunal case pending.
Secure your account now — it takes less than 60 seconds.
