Recording a defect is only half the battle. The other half — the harder half — is getting your builder to actually fix it. That's why we built defect aging and SLA tracking into HomeOwner Guardian.
Every Defect Now Has a Clock
The moment you log a defect, a timer starts. Every defect in your register now shows a colour-coded age badge:
- Green (< 7 days) — Recently reported, within normal response time
- Yellow (7–14 days) — Getting old, builder should have responded by now
- Orange (14–30 days) — Overdue. Time to follow up formally
- Red (30+ days) — Significantly overdue. Consider escalation
At a glance, you can see which defects are being ignored. No more scrolling through dates trying to remember when you first reported that cracked tile.
Automatic Builder Reminders
Guardian now sends automated reminders when defects pass their SLA deadline (14 days by default). You'll receive an email summary of overdue defects with a direct link back to each one.
This gives you a documented timeline: "I reported this on March 1st. Guardian sent a reminder on March 15th. The builder still hasn't responded." That timeline is gold in a dispute.
Built for Accountability
The defect escalation system tracks four stages: Reminder Sent → Formal Notice → Fair Trading → Tribunal. Each step is logged with a timestamp, building an evidence trail that tribunals and Fair Trading offices take seriously.
Available now for all Guardian users. Start tracking your defects — and make sure they actually get fixed.
